The WHO Reports 417 Million People Have HSV-2
According to a resent report by Reuters, 417 million people worldwide ranging in age from 15 to 49 have HSV-2, which causes genital herpes. In addition to the 417 million people living with HSV-2, another 3.7 billion people under the age of 50 suffer from the HSV-1 (herpes simplex virus 1).
A WHO medial officer, Sami Gottieb, has called for more research into a vaccines to prevent HSV-2 and HSV-1 infections. She also pointed out there are several phase-1 and phase-2 trails underway that could show promising results.
